You all know what this means! Yep, it’s an all girl week at the apartment! We have lots of things to do and places to see “girl style” in Chicago!
First, I picked up Mary at the train station which is about 5 blocks from our apartment. We had a nice stroll home on a beautiful fall evening.
The next morning, we took a quick ride on the Orange Line train and we were at the airport 20 minutes later, ready to grab my comadres and go!
We hopped back on the Orange Line and went home for a quick lunch and short rest (Gigi and Coco took the 6:00 a.m flight in, so they’d been up quite a while!).
First outing … a walk up State Street. It’s always fun to just start walking when someone new comes. There’s just so much to see and it’s pretty much right here. The park, Michigan Avenue, State Street Shopping … and of course, so much more.
That evening, Eddie had a great idea for a place for us to try for dinner. Latinicity is a cool new place that is like a food court and a fun restaurant all in one. It’s called “Latinicity” because they have chefs with their own little “store fronts” from every region of Mexico, Central America, and South America. You have your choice of any of the regional foods, and then you can grab a drink (LIKE MARGARITAS!) from a “centralized” bar, have a seat in any of their “regions,” and listen to exciting Latin music. It was so fun … besides the great food, we all wanted to jump out of our seats and start doing the salsa!
We walked home full and happy and hit the hay early so we could start our next adventure the following morning!
The one request I got from the girls before they even got here was … “we want to go to the Art Institute!”
So, we took the “One Hour Tour of the Greatest Pieces” and … what do you think happened? The one hour turned into four or five or even six, and we still did not see all the great pieces! What is wrong with us? It’s just so hard to not stop at a piece that’s not on the tour when it tugs at your heart. They need to change the name from the “One Hour Tour” to “Take A Week to See These 12 Pieces Cuz You’re Gonna Need It!” Seriously! I have now been to the museum at least 4 times and I still have not seen them all! It’s going to take me years! Oh well, at least it keeps me going back. I’ll happily do that!
After an day filled with beautiful art and reflection, we made our way home to … Eddie taking care of dinner!! Why, because we still had an evening of “art” to take in, but we needed our protein before we could leave the apartment and go! We ordered in (which, by the way, I love doing!! I feel like a big city girl when we do it!) from one of our favorite neighborhood places called “Pat’s Pizza.” Their specialty is thin crust pizza and a spaghetti and meatballs to die for! I prefer the thin crust rather than the huge, deep-dish crust. So, after it was delivered to our door, we dug in and ate up! It was delicious and just what we needed to continue our day!
We hopped back on the redline train and got off 3 stops later. Walked two blocks down to the … Cadillac Palace Theatre! Woohoo, we are going to a play! And not just any play! A perfect “girls week” play!! Take a guess …
Mamma mia, here I go again!
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again,
My my, just how much I’ve missed you!
Yes we did! We got to see the “one week only” event of the Broadway musical, “Mamma Mia!” It can’t be any more perfect for a girls week than that, right??
We all knew the lyrics, danced in our seats, and sang along during every song! It was soooo fun! The Cadillac Theatre is a beautiful Chicago venue to show off and every time I get a chance, I do just that! We didn’t want the show to end, it was just too much fun!
What a great day filled with art and song and laughter and love! You can’t beat a day like that. But we’re pooped. We decided to walk back to the apartment which is exactly one mile from the theater. It was a cool, crispy evening and the walk did us good! It sort of “rejuvinated” us! Once we got back to the apartment, we jumped on the bed and chatted til midnight. Yep, it’s girls week for sure!
More to come! I’ll talk to you tomorrow!
