Anybody Wanna Get a Little Kinky??

Got your attention, didn’t I?  Haha!  Ok, today we decided to hit the theater district to see what was playing.  Not Avengers or Terminator or even Ant Man (really? Someone actually made a movie about this?), but the theater district, as in “Broadway in Chicago” playing.  We decided not to let Bubbi in on our little secret but instead told her that we were going for a tour of one of the many playhouses in downtown Chicago’s historic theater district.  So off we went on our bikes again north about a mile from our apartment.  We arrived and started perusing all the plays that are “On Chicago” right now.  “Fancy Nancy,” “Pippin,” “Million Dollar Quartet,” and more more more.  How do you decide which one to enjoy?  Through the kindness of our friends’ recommendations, to be sure!   Before we left, my good friend Ray told me, “Lani, you absolutely cannot miss “Kinky Boots” … you will love it!”  So, we did what Ray told us to do and took ourselves to the “Cadillac Palace Theatre” for a “tour” of the playhouse.  We got there just in time for the crowd to start gathering around the entry way, waiting to go inside.  Bubbi was really into the architecture of the theater, the beauty found from the floor to the ceilings.  We made our way to the balcony where the “tour” was going to start.  As we settled into our seats, we sat ourselves down to take in the ambiance and do a little people watching.  At just about the time the announcer came on to say “the play will begin shortly, so please turn off your cell phones, yada yada,” she started to get suspicious … then realized that we were actually there to see the play.  She went nuts!  She had no idea what play we were seeing but that whatever it was going to be would be great … and she was right!  We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the play and like Ray suggested … if you have a chance to see this one, you cannot miss it!  It’s a feel-good, do-good, dance-good play filled with great lines and fabulous dancing.  Do yourself a favor and put Kinky Boots on your “can’t miss” when it’s in town or whenever you happen to be in a city that the show is playing in.  You will love it, I’m sure!

Cadillac Palace Theatre plays “Kinky Boots.” We gave it 2 Thumbs Up!

After all that dancing, and clapping, and (ok a little) crying, and more dancing, we were … you guessed it!  Hungry!  So we walked around the corner to a little “bistro” that had been recommended to Eddie for our “Linner” (for those of you who don’t know what this is … think of “brunch” but a little later … get it??  Lunch … Dinner … LINNER!)  The Crepe Bistro was a winner-winner (you know the rest!)!  This little gem is a Russian/French cuisine inspired eatery and it was a Top Ten on our list!  Oui!  Oui!  Emperor’s Salmon crepe, a Kathmandu crepe (with Bubbi’s new favorite topping “mango chutney”) and Beef Bourguignon was out of this world.  The pictures do not do this justice but here you go anyway!!

We highly recommend this for trying out a new type of food, new tastes, and just a plain ol’ great place to eat!

For our next act, we have … “The Chicago Film Tour“!  Now that was a great tour for all you movie buffs out there!  I’m terrible about movies, but even I could follow along (well almost!)!  There was “Backdraft” “Blues Brothers” “Transformers” “When Harry Met Sally” “The Fugitive” and many, many more!  There is even the “Siskel Film Center” which, of course, is a tribute to that favorite movie critic, Gene Siskel.  This is definitely a movie town, Hollywood East, to be sure, where quite a few t.v. and big screen movies are currently being filmed.  In fact, on our tour (and I don’t think this was planned!) we pulled up along side the filming of a car scene from “Chicago P.D.”  The police car was being towed by a big van, cameras all over the place, people crawling on the van, on the car roof, all while the characters were inside the car being filmed for the scene.  It was fun to see an actual show being filmed and quite by accident.  We also learned that there are many Chicago “Wanna-Be’s” in the industry.  You’ll see movies that were supposedly set in Chicago when they were actually filmed in a studio or a whole other city!  What a bunch of cheaters, right?  I can’t imagine that they sleep well at night at all!

So, for your viewing pleasure, here’s a list of the movies that we saw on the tour … and the locations that go with it.

Location, location, location!

Location, location, location!

We learned a bunch of history with regard to the movies and the sets and locations (which, of course, I promptly forgot! haha!) that made the tour fun, interesting, and educational.  Bubbi, who is our family movie aficionado, gave it a strong 10!  For you movie lovers out there, this is your tour!  Ok, talk to you tomorrow!
